To The Sky
Starr was selected to sing a solo at an upcoming sorority event. It is not a big event, it is not a huge deal. However, she wanted to practice and sing it for me the other night. I was tasked to help her with the words, I held the sheet music and she sang from memory. She didn’t miss one. She did a great job.
I was torn up inside, but didn’t say anything. I cried by myself later. I was emotional because what she doesn’t know is that it is the first time that I have heard her really sing…not with the radio, or silly singing…but really sing since the accident.
Starr, Sunny and Skye were all involved with choir at school and they all took private lessons with the same teacher, Miss Debbie. Starr started taking private lessons her sophomore year and Sunny and Skye started their junior years. Each May, Miss Debbie had a little Solo’s recital for her high school students. May 2007 was supposed to be their “last” Solo’s recital…they were all seniors. Sadly, the accident occurred just two days before recital day.
Singing was such an important part of their lives. I knew that when high school was over, that the majority of the singing would be over too…I didn’t expect the accident, I didn’t expect to lose Sunny, I didn’t expect our lives to be in the place that it is.
She will be mad at me for posting that! I know that they all improved significantly over their senior year, sadly I don’t have any recordings of them. There are a couple recordings of the three of them from earlier that I am working to get my hands on. I want to hear Sunny’s voice again.

She sounds beautiful!
