Facing my Fears

Okay. Just one fear at a time. There is no need to go crazy.

WordPress recently released version 2.8.1. and I was ignoring it. Considering the fact that I recently lost this blog while upgrading to 2.8, I was in no hurry to try it again. However, I was hearing from more than one source that since I was using 2.8 that I really should upgrade to 2.8.1 for critical bug fixes and security issues.

Damn.

I didn’t want to risk it. It took weeks to fully recover from the last fiasco. Many tears were shed, both from being emotionally lost as well as being physically exhausted. Despite my fears and nervous stomach, I decided to move forward and upgrade yesterday afternoon. I backed up, twice! This time I chose not to use the automatic upgrade button, which is where things fell apart last time, and upgraded manually.

Since I was so methodical, checking and double checking the files that I was backing up, the files that I was deleting (deleting is scary!!) and then the files that I was replacing, it probably took three times the amount of time to do the complete operation than it should have. Despite this I was still done, finished, completed, upgraded both of my blogs with out incident in less than an hour!!

I think I was holding my breath the entire time! Finally breathing, I did a little happy dance around my office!

In other news, Starr has decided to start a blog of her own. She says that I can link to it in a week or two, after she has added some content. I am posting the song below because it is her muse at the moment. We spent a couple hours last night throwing out ideas and listening to music trying to find her “theme”, name and URL. We started with this song and ended with it!

My favorite line from the song is “we put our feet just where they had, had to go.”

Since I am now in a Beirut mood, I am going to repost this fan video for Beirut’s “Forks and Knives” filmed in Amsterdam. I just love the feel of the day represented:

From My Playlist

A friend asked me recently what my favorite song of all time was. Truth is, I just don’t know. I have many many songs that sing to my heart, or make me smile or move more than others. It truly depends on the day, the hour, my mood, current events, etc.

Quickly checking my iTunes library of songs, this is the single most played song in my collection:

“Music When the Lights Go Out” – The Libertines

However, that doesn’t account for playing music on my iPod, from different sources or especially life before iTunes. CD’s, cassette tapes, records and the radio! Or the fact that I don’t listen to music at the computer much anymore, it has been a few years. At any rate, this song is the second most played:

“What You Wish For” – Guster

Third:

Fourth:

Fifth:

“Mushaboom” – Feist

Sixth:

“Not For All the Love in the World” – The Thrills

Seventh:

“Maybe I’m Amazed (Paul McCartney and Wings Cover)” – Jem

Eighth:

“Beautiful” – Lee and LeBlanc

Ninth:

“Delicate” – Damien Rice

And lastly, the tenth most played song:

It’s the Simple Things

Said the Gramophone had a Wonderful Video Contest. I wasn’t interested, I didn’t really care. Today they posted a few of their favorites. I almost closed the link without reading the post. I almost missed the very best part of this Monday. Almost. I liked each and every one of the videos and I look forward to next week when I can see more.

Here is another Beirut song….the one that grabbed me nearly two years ago and still hasn’t let go:

“Postcards From Italy” – Beirut
